As you all know I started running last year. Yes I’m a fairly new runner, but I love every second I’m on the road and the challenge that it brings. Part of my fitness goals for this year was to run a few 5k and work my way up to 10k. As much as I love a challenge, often times I get nervous and back down, sadly.
Since I had a hard time falling asleep the other night, I decided to browse through a few blogs from fellow runners. Doing so, I stumbled upon a particular post from Tiatopia asking her readers about how they’re doing with their New year’s goals. This question got me thinking. I took a few seconds to review my goals which I posted about at the beginning of the year. I realized that I am still behind on some of mine. I still haven’t signed up for any runs which was one important goal for me, and it’s already April. I think I have been running enough to start testing the waters. So I decided it was time to take action.
I had recently seen this particular race coming to town called “The Color Run“, that I was interested in running, but none of my friends could make it with me. That kind of turned me off and I decided to put it on the back burner. After seeing the post from Tiatopia asking how are our goals coming along, it gave me the push I needed to sign up for my first 5k. Thank you girl!!!
The reason I did not want to go alone is because I usually like to have at least one familiar face in the crowd for support when I’m trying out new things. At the end of the day I came to the realization that I won’t always have the luxury of having people I know around with everything that I do and I can’t let that hold me back. Now that I decided I can do this run no matter who’s around, I feel a lot more confident and don’t really care if I finish alone. What matters at this point is crossing that finish line and I have every intention in the world of doing so.
I can’t wait for the actual run to happen on April 23rd (just a couple more weeks) and experience all the emotions that I’ve heard other runners talk about. Of course as you know I will be sharing it all with you guys.
In the meantime, keep running and stay healthy guys!
