This weekend was the complete relaxation package for me, and my body is so grateful because it really needed it. The only things missing were the long chairs, palm trees, and the margaritas. Well maybe next time!
I decided to show a little love to my body this weekend after beating it up for so long. I got the chance to go to a Yoga workshop that took place 30 minutes away from me on Friday, with one of the yogis I follow on Instagram Irene Papas. She is such a great teacher. I was concerned that I might not know enough to be part of the workshop. Before even signing up, I sent her a quick message to figure out if it was worth it for me to be there. She reassured me that I would be fine and she would make sure that I don’t get lost in her class. She delivered, that was great. I took a lot from her class.
Aside from that, I woke up Saturday a bit earlier than usual Saturday for my 3 miles run which was terrible, but that’s a totally different story. Afterwards, I met with my friend for an afternoon of pampering at her gym Lifetime Fitness (this place is amazing and comes with a hefty price tag). Anyway, we had lunch there, chatted a little bit, then it was time for our session. I signed up for 1hr 30 mns of deep tissue massage. My body was screaming for it. What I loved about it is the fact that their sessions are geared towards athletes. So it’s not just your typical pampering session (they say). These 90 minutes felt like hell and heaven at the same time. lol! I had so many knots on my back. He took great care of every aching muscle in my body. His elbow even went into action in certain areas (that’s how serious it was). I woke up sore today, but I know I will be grateful during the week when I get back to running.
After yesterday I decided that I should incorporate this in my regular routine. I’m thinking about taking a yoga class at least once a week to start (there’s a studio that I like that is about 2 miles away, so that’s perfect). Every athlete I know praises the benefits of yoga, and I’ve been wanting to add it to my schedule but so far never really happened. I sure hope this time I can stick to it. Also, I want to get a massage at least once a month to help relax my muscles and reset.
This weekend was a great reminder for me that sometimes I need to stop and just show some love to my body after beating it up so much on a regular basis. If you are a runner, biker, swimmer, or any kind of athlete, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. So my advice to you, don’t forget to take some time off every now and then to pamper yourself. Your body will be grateful to you and function a lot better when you need it to.
Well guys this was my weekend. How was yours? Did you do any special? Anything out of the ordinary? Thinking about adding to your routine? I’d love to hear from you. Don’t forget to share below!
In the meantime, Stay Healthy and Keep Running! Namaste!
