The story goes a little bit like this: Girl wakes up for her 30 mns morning run. Girl gets ready, eats a banana with some peanut butter, grabs a bottle of water before she heads out. The weather was beautiful, she did not think anything of it. Girl forgets that she lives in Florida, and Florida weather is like no other : Sunny one second and pouring rain the next. As soon as girl gets out her front door, she feels the sprinkles of rain. She consults with her partner. He’s ok with it. So, out they go for the adventure of a lifetime.
I’ve posted about how close I was to running in the rain before, but today was the real deal. This rain had no mercy on us. Just a few minutes into our run, it started pouring. We were soaked. What would you do if you were us? Head back home? Maybe… But that is not what happened. We were determined to complete our workout this rain or shine. That is exactly what we did.
This friend that I am referring to is none other than my father who happens to be in town for the week. I talk about him quite often on my blog. He is the one who’s tried to instill the habit of being active and staying fit in me at a very young age. Young “Me” did not like exercising, older me loves working out, goes to the gym and runs every chance she gets (rain or not) (all thanks to this man). I know he is proud of me.
It ended up being a fun experience. We ran over the scheduled 30 minutes, took pictures in the rain and all. Of course right about the time we were getting closer to home, the rain stopped and the sun came up as if it was nothing (welcome to Florida).
I’m sure people were probably thinking what in the heck are these two knuckle heads doing in this rain, strange stares and all. Lol! Guess what, I did not care one bit. I wanted to run, and I did. Would I prefer the sun? Yes! But that wasn’t the hand that was dealt o me, so I dealt with it. I feel good and refreshed. My shins are killing (nothing to do with the rain :-)), so I’m going to take a few days off to give my legs a break and focus on some strength training until my long run this Saturday.
Have you had any encounters with the rain while running? Did you go back home or did you keep running? Share with me below.
In the meantime, Stay Healthy and Keep Running guys!
