I woke up yesterday morning and got ready for my long run of the week as usual. Everything seemed normal, well maybe not all that normal, but enough for me to brave it. I was woken up by the sound of the rain a bit earlier, and it was cloudy outside. Despite the cloudiness, I thought I still had the chance to complete my run before the rain came down again. So, out the door I went for a 4 miles run.
The sky was clearing up, the temperature was just right, and as I was warming my muscles up with a brisk walk, my boyfriend called me with exciting news. I knew it would be a great run, plus I was mentally getting ready to run my 4 miler without any walk breaks. I had the whole thing planned out properly.
It was a great run indeed, everything went according to plan, that is until it started pouring of course. But before we get to the rain part… I completed my 4 miles. I made a stopped at the beach and hung out on the grass for a bit, stretched, snapped a few pictures, enjoyed the scenery, watched the kids play etc… That is when the dark clouds started getting closer. I told myself it was time to go home before mother nature decided to give me an unwanted shower. I wasn’t really up for it.
Just about a minute after I got up and left, it all came down on me. It was nothing like I’ve experienced before. I’ve had ran some rainy miles recently, but nothing compared to this. With all the lightening and lack of visibility, I quickly decided it wasn’t safe to keep going. I took shelter just like everyone else where I met a couple other runners also waiting for the storm to pass.
By the time, the rain calmed down and I got back on the road, I was literally stepping in deep puddles of water. Who does not like the feeling of wet socks and wet sneakers? 🙂 Now my running shoes are outside drying out. I am hoping for the best. If not, I might need to make a stop at the store for new pair. I’m very glad my armband protected my phone well enough. Surprisingly, it’s still running properly.
Despite the storm, My rainy miles were my best miles ever. Although I wanted to stop many times, I kept telling myself over and over that I could do it, and I kept going until I met my goal. To make it all better, I headed to my favorite yoga place for a 1 hour hot yoga class soon after. I’m not sure I could’ve had a better long run day than this Saturday. Rain or not, it all worked out after all.
