I came across this picture on Facebook. It is quite funny, but sadly it so true. As ridiculous as it sounds my local gym is near empty right now, and it has been since last week. They’ve pretty much cancelled all the group classes until next week which is post holiday season.
Fitness should be a way of life, not an occasional thing. There is no such thing as holidays when it comes to getting fit. You must have heard this a million times: “Summer bodies are made during the winter”. It is very true. If you don’t workout during the cold and in this case (the holidays), how do you expect to look good when you want to hit up the beach during the summer??? You’ll be unhappy about the way you look or not achieving your goal, not even thinking that you just didn’t work hard enough at it.
During the holiday season is when you should focus more on the quality of your workouts. You should kick it up the intensity a notch or two. Why? It’s simple, this is the time of the year where you probably don’t focus so much on what you eat for the simple fact that you have so much going on. There’s this holiday gathering here, the job’s holiday party there, your friend’s holiday party, nights out with the girls, etc… There are so many events to attend with all kinds of unhealthy and tempting foods and drinks that it is too easy to get off track. Don’t let go all the way though. The least you can do is to keep up with your workout routines. That way, you will have somewhat of a balance and keep you from gaining weight and messing up all the efforts you’ve previously put in. Don’t just stop working out altogether for the whole season, then get upset when you realize the damage you’ve caused and nearly having to start over. It is easier to gain weight then to lose (at least this is true for me)
So, get your butt back in the gym, and keep working towards your goals. Don’t be that person expecting results without putting in the effort. Nothing in life comes easy, especially not a great looking body. The effort you put in is what you’ll get in return.
