I’m sure most of you know by now that if you’re trying to lose weight, your environment matters. If you did not know, now you do.
If you are trying to make a change within you, you need to first change your environment, or it won’t work. You have to do some cleaning. what do I mean by that? I mean that you have to take a look at everything and everyone around you and get rid of what will keep you from accomplishing your goals. Sounds easier than it actually is, I know.
First you should know what is keeping you from your goals. Is it the food you keep in your home? Is is the people around you? Your coworkers? The occasional girls night out? Happy hour? As I’m typing this, a few guys at my job are devouring a huge plate of barbecue ribs, and God knows it smells good. Of course they offered me some. As tempting as it was, I kindly declined. Bottom line is, whatever it may be, you need to know.
Now am I always that strong to decline, or stay away from the temptation? I wish. If so, I’d be very happy with my body right now. I know what my weaknesses are (or what keeps me from the finish line). I do the occasional outings with friends (one scheduled today after work with my boss, lol). When I go out, unfortunately I splurge. I will have that margarita, or those fries that I usually try my best not to indulge in. I don’t keep alcohol, or any bad food at home. When I go to the grocery store, I only get the necessary. And yes I got into the habit of reading the labels. Unfortunately, when I go out (which I’ve been doing a lot more lately) I become super weak.
Problem number two is really my main problem: my significant other. He is a bad influence on me. The worst part, I think he is secretly sabotaging me. (Yes honey, I said it). He likes me to look a certain way. If I ever become smaller than his ideal image of me, he starts cooking everything that I try to refrain from, and wants to go to dinner more often. Besides running that I keep up with 2-3 times a week, I barely go to the gym because there is always something stopping me.
I share all of this with you guys because I know you can relate. But there is a way for you, for me to get out of the hole. I know I can keep my going out to a minimum. The major issue will be to control my significant other. I’m not to sure how to handle it yet, but I know I will find the solution.
What about you? How do you plan on getting rid of your roadblocks so you can get to your fitness and health goals?
